Transforming a Generic Home into a Timeless Oasis: A Look Inside the Movva Family’s Hidden Hills Residence
The Movva family’s journey from a generic, black-and-white new-construction home in Hidden Hills to a personalized, timeless oasis is a story of transformation and vision. When Arvind and Swetha Movva relocated their family of six from Chicago to Southern California, they knew they wanted a home that reflected their love for patinated finishes and classic design.
Enter Los Angeles-based interior designer Amber Lewis, who took on the challenge of infusing the house with her signature style while retaining its original structure. Over the course of three years, the once stark interiors of the home were imbued with warmth and character, thanks to Lewis’s thoughtful use of antique pieces and textured finishes.
From the entrance hall to the living spaces and playroom, every corner of the home was carefully curated to cater to the needs of the family. Custom upholstery, vintage furnishings, and antique glass-paneled doors transformed the living areas into inviting and relaxed spaces for the entire family to enjoy.
The dining room, with its Euroline steel doors for indoor/outdoor entertaining, and the kitchen, featuring a coved ceiling clad in Moroccan Zellige tile, are just a few examples of the dramatic changes made to the home. Swetha’s favorite aspect of the home, a mural by James Mobley in the dining room, adds a personal touch that reflects the family’s love for nature.
Lewis’s favorite part of the project, the primary suite, exudes tranquil luxury with wood-paneled walls, burnt orange accents, and a primary bath with custom brass doors and marble-topped vanities. The result is a California residence that seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern functionality, thanks to the collaborative effort between the owners and the designer.
The Movva home is now a space where every room has a distinct purpose, and every surface and seating area has intentionality. It is a testament to the power of vision and design in transforming a house into a home that truly reflects the personalities and lifestyle of its inhabitants.
